Red Feather Canned Processed Cheese...

product of Australia. I opened a can today from our survival food preps because I was nervous about having products we've never sampled. It was an 8-ounce can. The cheese was white, as opposed to a yellow cheese; but it did have a sharp flavor like a yellow cheddar would. Long story short, both of us were tremendously impressed. I'm not saying it saying it competes with cheeses from the deli (but perhaps others in our household would.) But, my God, I am so happy to find this in my emergency preps. I'm going to order another case. P.S. The dog loves it too.

When TSHTF, we're going to need comfort food. And this fits the bill.

I do believe white is the natural color of cheddar and they add a plant based colorant to achieve the yellow color.

Yep....good stuff in the absence of any cheese....got several cases. Supposed to have a REAL long shelf life.

The Red Feather canned butter is another favorite.

Re: Red Feather Canned Processed Cheese...

I ordered my canned cheese from The Survival Center in May, 2008. So, we know it's good for more than a year .:s1: And Tn...Andy is right -- it's supposed to last a long, long time. I keep mine in the basement where it's always cool.

Ingredients:

Cheese (Pasteurised milk, salt, culture, enzyme), water, sodium citrate, butter, salt, sodium polyphosphate, potassium polyphosphate, sodium phosphate, citric acid, nisin to retard spoilage.

Am I happy about the additives? Nope. But maybe they're why it keeps so long. And, for what it's worth, the Kraft Deli Deluxe American Process Cheese in my refrigerator has many of the same ingredients.

By the way, it grates and melts too.

Imacannin - I looked at the powdered butter and cheese at honeyville too...thought the same thing and did not order any.. It would be a nice emergency thing to have...regardless of the added "nasties"

Re: Red Feather Canned Processed Cheese...

Tonight I opened a can of the Red Feather Pure Creamery Butter to give it the old taste test as well. It tasted just fine, spreads like fresh butter, and according to the can label has no nasties of any kind.

Ingredients:
pasteurized cream, salt.

That should make Rebel Yarr and ImaCannin happy!

P.S. Tonight I ordered another case of each (prices are edging up.) MREDepot has the cheese in stock. Survival center has the butter.

I love the cheese. It makes great grilled cheese sandwiches. I can't say I'm thrilled with the butter, though. It looks and spreads fine, but I found it to be so flavorless as to not be worthwhile to me except for baking/cooking. Still, it's nice to have it for that.

LOL! Careful giving cheese to a dog. It's "stops" them up in the worst way.

I ordered a bunch from MREDepot, and tried a couple of cans. I thought it was pretty good. Of course, my opinion doesn't mean squat around here.

So one night, while grilling cheeseburgers, I snuck a can out and used it on the burgers. I found that it doesn't melt like regular cheese. But when I served it up, the wife and kids commented on how good the cheese was. Mission accomplished. :emotions16:

anyone ever try this bread in a can?

There was a whole thread about this awhile back, which promped me to try it. I've only had the variety with raisins, but it's very good. It's more of a cake than a bread, but lots of people use it just like bread. About a 1" thick slice topped with some butter for breakfast takes me all the way to lunch with no problem. That tells me you get a lot of energy from a small amount of food.

I have never seen it at Walmart, but I've found it at Winn-Dixie. They often put it around the cake mixes, or sometimes with the baking goods. If you can find a can at a local grocer, you can see if you like it before you commit to buying a bunch. And you might even come out cheaper buying in bulk from the store than from an online outfit.

I get mine at the Air Force base at $1.69 a can. And yes, I've stocked up....:biggrin:

Just so there's no misunderstanding, I was referring to the Deli Deluxe, which is excellent, not the processed cheese food, which is what you're thinking of.

My suggestion, MREDepot will sell you one sample 8 oz can for $3.95 plus shipping. http://www.mredepot.com/servlet/the-...ter/Categories Try it first before you buy a bunch or before you give up on it altogether.

I know the ingredients lists salt; but the Red Feather product tastes like it has a lot less salt than fresh butter -- closer to unsalted, in fact. But I know what you mean. The product is far from a perfect substitute for store-bought butter. In some ways the flavor more resembles margarine. I still think it's great to have around for the day when store shelves may be bare.

Thanks for the heads up on the cheese. Got a case (36 cans) $121 shipped. Couldn't find the butter, are they out or am I just a goob and need remedial reading?

I've got several cans of that brown bread on hand. With raisins and without.

Pretty good. Better toasted with melted butter.
I am guessing this would be a favorite with anyone who is missing meals!

Local grocery carries plenty of it. Want to say for less than $2 a can.

Wish I could find a grocery store that sells canned cooked bacon. Saw it on one of the links here. Don't want to pay for it or shipping.

The butter is usually sold out, and it goes fast whenever they get a shipment in. If you sign up for email alerts from MREDepot.com, they'll usually give you a heads up when they're expecting a shipment and will start taking orders for it.

I ordered a case of cheese from these folks and I got it UPS in 5 days counting the weekend. Got a code for 10% off the next order and just used it on a case of butter.

I asked for email updates like Lars Ragnarsson suggested and 2 days later they gots the butter. $133 shipped with discount.

These folks are really good about keeping you posted on your transaction via email and they were fast. 2 Thumbs up. :applause_

When the weather cools so it won't be in 120 degree trucks, I'm ordering the red feather cheese.

The brown bread is delicious but quite sweet. As he says, more like cake. With preserves it makes a great sweet treat.

You can bake your own cake in canning jars too.
